Jesus and the United States
The subject for this article has bothered me since the election on November 7th 2000. I have been pondering what to say, and do, since the election for President of the United States on that infamous November 7th 2000. I feel that I should mention a few items up front before I go into the details. I have to go back about 20 years to June of 1979.
June of 1979 was the onset of my divorce. It was a devastating time for me and my three children as well as for my ex-wife. I became more depressed with each passing week.
I was, at the time, what Jesus would call a "luke warm" Christian. I didn't really know Jesus or His Word. During the bouts of depression, I would have visions of what my life would be like in the near future. I had a terrible fear that I would be all alone and would live in a small, dark and dirty apartment. (Just as I did as a child).
Well, one day, I was laying on my bed with a
Bible on my chest, when Jesus spoke to me. Jesus said, "you are alone
right now and you are fine, I am with you". I tell you that I got up
from that bed, laid the Bible on a table, decided that that day was the first
day for the rest of my life. I immediately made arrangements to "get
on with my life". Don't get me wrong, Jesus had words to say to me before
this, however, I wasn't ready to listen.
I needed to tell you about that part of my life in order to explain what is
to come. Some people never hear from the Lord while others say they hear His
voice often. That leads me to my next point; It is November 7th 2000, election
night across the United States, the "very interesting" election
for President of the United States. The time was 6:00P.M. PST. The poling
locations had been closed for an hour on the East Coast but remained open
on the West Coast for two more hours, till 8:00P.M.
The media had just, unofficially, given the state of Florida to Al Gore, which in all of their wisdom has given the election to Al Gore. I remember, at that time, walking down the hallway in my house and hearing Jesus speak to me for only the second time in my life! Jesus said, "Bush will win the presidency by the narrowest margin imaginable." He went on to say: "YOU HAVE FOUR YEARS TO TURN YOUR COUNTRY BACK TO ME!" "Turn your country back"!! That sounds to me like He was and is saying this country is NOT with Him now.
WHY is He telling me??
Some people will say " Lord, look at all the people who go to church.
And, look at all the money that the people of the United States give to help
others." I'm sure the Lord is saying, "That's nice, but do you know
Me". Let's look at what Jesus says to Peter, in the Gospel of John, that
may shed some light on Jesus' statement: "You have four years to turn
your country back to me"!!
John 21:13-20 "When they had finished
eating, Jesus said to Simon Peter, "Simon son of John, do you truly love
me more than these?" "Yes, Lord," he said, "you know that
I love you." Jesus said, "Feed my lambs." Again Jesus said,
"Simon son of John, do you truly love me?" He answered, "Yes,
Lord, you know that I love you." Jesus said, "Take care of my sheep."
The third time he said to him, "Simon son of John, do you love me?"
Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, "Do you love me?"
He said, "Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you."
Jesus said, "Feed my sheep.
Jesus is calling attention to the essentials in order for Peter, or us, to
truly follow Him; Love Him and take care of others.
That's it "Follow Me"!! Jesus said,
"Follow Me"!! Could anything be simpler? We are to simply follow
the Creator of the universe and do as He says.
Your Creator said in 2 Chron 7:14: "…..If My people who are called
by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from
their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin
and heal their land…."
